Moving: We hate it, but why must we trust the process?

welcome to phoenix

Moving. Ugh. Don’t you hate it?

I’ve moved a few times in my life and with every move I have always managed to walk away with something that becomes a life lesson. This last move took a lot out of me, emotionally, physically, and mentally.

March 2024, my family and I made the trek to Phoenix, AZ. Every market in my broadcast career has been about purpose, and assignment, for sure, this time was no different. Definitely assignment, because Phoenix was not on my radar. I guess that’s what you get when you tell God, you’re tired of the cold weather. Ha!

Two moving pods, a car shipping debacle, 60 plus moving boxes, 3 one-way tickets to AZ (including one for a puppy) and a drive more than 1,000 miles, we all made it safe.

Now comes the next step. Settling in, becoming adjusted to the new norm and change.

I think about why I stepped away from my role as an evening news anchor. I had a few people question my decision to step away.

“Isn’t that the dream job? That’s the ultimate goal to be a primetime main anchor, right?”

Yeah, but there’s so much more to life, I realized that, and when it doesn’t fit or align with what’s important, there’s only thing you can do… change.

50 Cent said, “go ahead switch the style up, and if they hate, let them hate, watch the money pile up.” (Something like that, hey, it flowed in my head.)

Change is necessary. Moving things, a shift, turnover are sometimes the reminders that it’s time to get your feet wet. Try something new.

But watch this, when it’s time for change, it also calls for getting rid of the old. I love this time of year; spring cleaning is the best. I try to clean all year round, but I love what it symbolizes. We must prepare for a new season, there’s a freshness in the air.

I had a lady send me a message, which spoke to my heart.

She said, “I admire your courage to change and move…”

There’s was a time in my life that I probably would have not been so courageous, but now I understand there is no value in complacency. You have to be willing to move, to change, grow and evolve. A stagnant flower could never reach its full bloom without the necessary steps needed to grow.

So, when it’s time to move, remember this: It’s preparation for your next chapter, your next season.

Prepare yourself for what’s ahead, that means purge what you don’t need. That includes people, because everybody can’t go with you in your next season.

I get rid of the things I don’t need, or I won’t wear and only bring with me the essentials.

God says you can’t make room for the new things I will do in your life, if you are still holding on to the old stuff, that brings you no good.

2 Corinthians 5:17

Greater is coming your way, trust the process.

We sold our home in January 2024, we downsized. It was so much everywhere in our apartment. I felt like I could never get organized, for me there was never peace, in a place that should provide peace, right?

I remember hearing, “This is your transition.”

The stuff out of place, boxes, and packing materials everywhere, felt like my life at the moment.

Chaos!

However, in the middle of a storm, my chaos, I found refuge knowing that once the transition period was over, I would have peace.

You know what? I do. I have peace. Peace and confidence to trust the process and truly believe everything will be okay.
